Finance Summer Intern Review

As a Finance Intern at Visa, I was placed within a team within the Corporate Finance function such as Controllership, Sourcing, Pricing and Deals. I was assigned a project to be carried out during my 11 week internship, culminating in a final presentation to senior leaders. On a day-to-day basis, I would work towards completing my project, alongside supporting my team with various initiatives as well as benefitting from intern workshops. I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with professionals across departments like Treasury & IT, interpreting financial data to identify process improvements and recommend actions. The role is both dynamic and collaborative, offering me exposure to both strategic and operational aspects of finance.

Yes, I was given a lot of responsibility during my internship. I was initially surprised at the importance of my intern project but I also appreciated it. I also feel that my recommendations are seriously considered and taken onboard, even though I am an intern. This level of involvement made me feel empowered and allowed me to make a real impact while learning from experienced professionals.

Yes, I’ve learned several new skills and developed existing ones during my internship. I gained hands-on experience using AI tools like Finance Agents alongside Excel & Power Bi, which improved my technical and analytical abilities. I also strengthened my financial knowledge through data validation and reporting, and enhanced my communication skills by creating training documentation and collaborating across teams. Leading meetings gave me more confidence and developed my leadership skills. Overall, the internship gave me practical exposure to finance operations and helped me grow professionally.

I received lots of support through my manager and buddy, through daily check ins and weekly progress reviews. I found this helpful as it allowed me to stay on track and encouraged me to ask more questions. The Early Careers Team also provided amazing support through meetings & skills development sessions. Overall I feel I had excellent support and guidance throughout my time with Visa.

From day one, I felt welcomed by everyone both in my team and generally in the office. The atmosphere felt both professional and inclusive, where I felt I was doing my best work whilst being myself. Everyone genuinely wanted to see me succeed and the culture having a strong emphasis on learning, inclusion, and teamwork allowed me to grow during my internship.

I loved my time with Visa and the internship surpassed all my expectations. As detailed previously, I felt all my contributions were seriously considered, and this grew my confidence to ask more questions. Learning about the firm was really interesting and prior to this, I knew little of Visa's actual operations and corporate structure. Another highlight was the speaker sessions and never did I think that I would be able to ask a question to the Global CEO directly. Overall, I really enjoyed my time with the firm.
