Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

My role was to assist the quantity surveyor in daily activities. My roles included pricing scope change, assisting with monthly applications for payment, assessing subcontractors works and liaising with procurement to order and deliver materials to site.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Lots of responsibility. I had my own work to complete and I was able to ask for guidance when needed.

Yes, lots of Excel! Using measuring software and being able to interpret drawings, specifications and programmes.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I was given a quantity surveyor as a mentor to shadow for my first two weeks and I was able to reach out to him whenever I needed, even after my first two weeks. He was very patient, answered all my questions to a beyond exceptional standard and taught me everything I know. I had a really good manager and a project team who also gave me support and guidance. Everyone was really friendly and willing to help. There's also early career leads who can help with things not directly related to your day to day work but your employment within the company.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Everyone is very collaborative and wants the best for the project. The general atmosphere was very friendly, milestones are celebrated and development is encouraged.
