Overview of the Role

Overall, how would you describe your experience at Lockton?
You are supported from day one at Lockton and it has been a positive experience so far. Throughout the application / recruitment process up until you start (and beyond) they are in regular contact which was important to me.
Training is provided and there are plenty of opportunities to develop your professional and personal skills particularly with the networking events, lunch time talks and charity events that are hosted. Always a lot to get involved with!
The majority of people I have spoken to are willing to help and share their experiences which has been hugely beneficial.
What are the main responsibilities of the role and which elements of the role do you enjoy the most?
My role has been non-rotational.
Best bits have been interacting, interviewing and presenting to clients. With my role I get the opportunity to visit clients sites which I have found really interesting as you get to understand the innerworkings of business from an Aerospace to a food manufacturer and everything in between.
To what extent does your role give you the opportunity to contribute meaningfully and feel valued by your team?
5/5
I started working on clients projects from day 1. Although this has been in a supporting role, my responsibilities have increased where I am now interviewing and presenting and really seeing the value that has been provided to our clients.
I do feel valued by my team and feel lucky that we get on well and support each other.
How does your compensation package - including perks & benefits - fairly remunerate you for the work you do?
5/5
Great benefits packages including private medical insurance, travel insurance, allows for a good pension contribution, cycle to work schemes etc. that has been implemented by our People Solutions team who are experts in providing that service.
For a starting salary I think this is very competitive especially considering that we have a good work life balance (even better when you live closer to the office!).
How well do you feel the role is preparing you for your future career?
4/5
I am learning transferrable skills e.g., presenting, report writing, creating meaningful business relationships etc. which are useful and applicable across roles and industries.
How would you rate the extent to which you were developing new or existing skills through formal training and your day-to-day role?
5/5
There are lots of opportunities to upskill - on the scheme we complete the ACII (Advanced Diploma in Insurance) which provides a great base knowledge of the industry. Where there are further formal training programmes that you want to complete, for example that will improve your technical knowledge, it is encouraged. Particularly at the start of the graduate scheme there is a lot more (generalised) formal training to get you up to speed and then specific training once you are more ingrained within the business. Day-to-day there are opportunities to develop new / existing skills but I wish there were slightly more.

Experience & Company Culture

How is the support you receive?
4/5
Highly rate the support provided by HR and the mentor scheme. I wish I received slightly more opportunities to grow from my line manager e.g., allowing me to present more to clients and giving me slightly more responsibilities but that comes with experience.
How is your work-life balance?
3/5
I have a very busy life outside the office and it is sometimes difficult to balance the commute (3 hours in total), studying for the ACII, working (including travelling around the UK and internationally) and my roles outside work as I am heaving involved in sport - committees, mentoring, officiating and playing.
Most of the time I do finish around 5:30/6:00pm with late nights being relatively rare but it is still a lot to juggle.
What is the organisational culture, values and general atmosphere like?
4/5
Great culture - majority of people are very welcoming.
In an environment where people are at the heart of the business.
Lucky to be part of a diverse team with so many different perspectives that I find very refreshing.
As a graduate it is a hybrid role but there is an expectation of more days in the office than not.
How would you rate Lockton initiatives when it comes to equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility?
5/5
We have committees (e.g., Pride) that create events to support and celebrate equality, diversity, inclusion and accessibility. These can be quite powerful and thought provoking in a good way to start those difficult conversations.
As always there is more things to be done. A real positive over the last year has been more focus in early careers including getting school leavers / graduates from diverse backgrounds to come into the office and understand what Insurance is all about and that it can be exciting. I want to see more of that.
How would you rate Lockton CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiatives?
3/5
I do not know enough about the initiatives to comment but we have brought an expert in recently to push this topic more.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lockton to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Positive environment to work in, get great support and it is an exciting industry to get into with lots of opportunities to grow across the business.
How well did the role match your expectations based on the recruitment process?
5/5
Exact match - maybe even better as there has been more involvement with clients / going on site than I had initially anticipated but that has been a positive. Communication throughout the process has been transparent too.
When considering the recruitment & onboarding process, have you any specific tips or advice you would give to others applying to Lockton?
Do your research - they want to know why you want to work at Lockton so it is important to understand the business you are applying for and whether your values align.
Want to learn - the insurance industry is constantly changing and with that comes continuous learning and upskilling. If you are interested in that it is a great attitude to have and will mean that you will fit in well.
Being a team - the people are the reason why we have a business and relationship building is key so I would highlight those skills if appliable to you.
