Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

I had 2 rotations - the first in Project Finance and the second in Fund Finance. Daily tasks and responsibilities included helping to write the credit memo, reviewing term sheets for new deals, performing LP analysis, research into new products/ growing sectors.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

We were given real responsibility and could see that our contributions directly impacted deals and processes within the bank.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I really developed my ability to read through long papers quickly - filtering out the key information. I also improved my excel and powerpoint skills. I gained a lot of practice delivering presentations and lastly learned the importance of balancing and managing my time effectively.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

We were given training modules and even sessions sometimes and everyone was very willing to teach us. All of my colleagues were very receptive to answering my questions and encouraged to ask more. There was a clear understanding that we were here to learn and the employees respected that and were understanding when we took longer to grasp new concepts, whilst still trying to make sure that we were being challenged appropriately.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

It was nurturing and definitely friendlier than what you would imagine the stereotypical investment bank to be like. Everyone was friendly and approachable - no matter how senior they were. They strongly encouraged us to have coffee chats with the other employees in the bank, to push us to grow our network which was particularly useful.
