Summer Intern Review

I am in Product Control - we look at a profit and loss from a particular trading desk, then adjust and reattribute this PNL to ensure it is accurate and attributed to the correct drivers. We use bespoke software and Excel to undertake this on a day to day basis, whilst also interacting with traders and various other stakeholders to ensure accuracy and overcome any complex problems. We may also carry out projects centred around improving the efficiency of the processes involved in PNL adjustment and attribution.

Yes I received comprehensive on the desk training, then was given responsibility early on, covering my own PNL and various side projects. What I found beneficial was the fact that although I had independence and autonomy, my team were always happy to help or push me further if I asked.

I developed my presentation skills , data analysis skills, commercial awareness, technical knowledge, IT skills, communication skills, and problem solving skills throughout this internship.

HR are regularly in contact and putting on engaging events and drop-in sessions, to ensure everything is running smoothly. My desk has also been really good in giving me ownership of tasks, whilst also helping me and training me on new things when needed. I think there has been a good balance of guidance and independence.

There is a welcoming culture, with an office full of people happy to speak to you and help you. Everyone has been kind to me and ensured I have had an enjoyable internship this summer.

I have enjoyed my internship greatly. I have learned lots of valuable technical knowledge, commercial knowledge and soft skills, whilst also being welcomed into a dynamic and sociable team. My desk has ensured I have had tasks and projects to stretch me and develop my skills, whilst also ensuring the support is there to help guide me through challenging tasks if needed. HR have also put on exciting and engaging events covering a vast range of topics.
