Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

As a software engineer I conduct daily stand-ups every morning to update my team on where I am within development. I interact with my direct colleagues who are working within my team if I need help with anything or If I have a new idea. Development during my internship insisted of me creating a web app that validated any picture/video taken hadn't been faked.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

Yes I was given as much responsibility as needed, it wasn't overwhelming it was just right. As much as needed to get the full experience of being a software engineer at PA Consulting.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

100% I learnt how to migrate an app created solely for a website to a phone app. Also learnt how to host an app via phone. I also learnt how to develop software with new frameworks and technologies that I hadn't used before hand with help from my supervisors and the people within the software and control department. I also learnt new techniques/ways of doing things. Existing skills were also improved and seasoned.

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

Full support and guidance was received, my supervisors ensured that anything I didn't understand was clarified. I was in an environment where I felt comfortable enough to ask the dumb questions.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I loved it, the project I did was really interesting it was a great learning experience. The other interns and the the wider team were great. Joined the football team as well which meant I got to engage with people from the other departments. Nothing bad to say.
