Summer Placement Review

The placement revolved around acting as a site supervisor, which involved:
Monitoring given worksites and keeping ongoing records up to date;
Producing job packs for upcoming works, including writing up CPP's, risk assessments, maps and compiling any other resources necessary for the works;
Completing safety audits and write ups of the results:
Any additional tasks to do with depot or site management.

A fair amount of responsibility was given to completing documentation and performing routine tasks. Work was checked afterwards to ensure it was adequate and feedback was given where necessary for improvements.

Working as a supervisor gives a unique experience with every different project you are assigned to. This placement in particular has given me a new understanding of bridge restoration schemes, but has also further updated my existing knowledge on Project initiation and organisation, and the various systems involved in them.

On this placement I was assigned a mentor to shadow for the placement along with a line manager who I could got to with any queries about the job and placement. Additionally the team organising the placements was very helpful in dealing with problems mid-placement.

All the people involved were very friendly throughout the placement, and the atmosphere was relaxed throughout, not stress inducing or too pressurising for a placement.

This placement has kept me on the busier side of things and has allowed me to experience a variety of different tasks and projects, so I have found it quite enjoyable.
