Software Development Engineering Intern Review

I was placed on a small team within the pricing division of the company, where I worked on adding functionality to an existing tool used by the team. I attended all of the teams daily standups and had weekly meetings with my manager to discuss my progress.

Myself and my "navigator" (someone on my team designated to answer my questions about the project) had full responsibility over the success of the project. Although I had support making decisions, the different options I considered were usually devised by myself.

I learned so much during my internship. I got much better at using the terminal and my understanding of APIs went from nothing to fairly confident. I got much more fluent in my debugging and use of IDEs, and my problem solving skills improved massively. I also had lots of opportunities to present and communicate with/to others.

Quite a lot! My navigator was very helpful, though he was very busy himself, and the rest of my team made themselves available as much as possible to answer my questions. Along with this, the emerging talent team were excellent in every way and always would do anything they could to help interns who were struggling.

Everyone was very friendly, not just in my team but in general. People often said hello to eachother in the hallways and I had endless quick chats with so many people at various parts of the day. Teams often eat lunch together and seem like genuinely good friends.

I really enjoyed being a part of such a lovely team, though at times I do wish I had a bit more guidance on my project. At times I either felt like information was being withheld from me or was being made up as my project progressed.
