Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

During my placement at Ringway Infrastructure Services, I worked as a Summer Placement Student within the highways division. My day-to-day responsibilities included supporting operational and maintenance activities on live roadwork sites, updating records and logs such as trail hole reports, and assisting with surface dressing preparation. I also worked closely with the site supervisor and hub manager to coordinate logistics, document workforce activities, and learn about health and safety requirements in road maintenance projects. This role gave me hands-on experience in infrastructure services and helped me understand the delivery of public works projects.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my placement experience. It gave me valuable exposure to the civil engineering and highways maintenance industry, allowing me to apply what I’ve learned in university to real-life situations. The team were very supportive and welcoming, and I appreciated the balance between office-based tasks and on-site experience. I also felt that my work had a purpose, which made the placement both engaging and rewarding.
