As a Flying Start audit student, my role involves balancing academic coursework with practical auditing experience. On the academic side, I attend university lectures and complete assignments that cover accounting and finance principles, helping prepare for professional qualification exams. During work placements, I join audit teams in a professional services firm, engaging in real client projects where I perform audit tests, analyze financial data, and gather evidence to assess the accuracy of financial statements. Collaboration with experienced auditors and attending firm-led training sessions are key components of my professional development. Through this dynamic mix of study and work, I gain valuable insights into auditing practices, fostering both technical skills and industry connections essential for a future career in accountancy.

he Flying Start audit program is generally well-structured, but there is room for improvement in communication, especially regarding the opening day and some administrative deadlines. There was a bit of confusion at the start regarding what was expected and when things were happening. Clearer and more timely communication about important dates and administrative requirements would help ease the transition and ensure everyone is on the same page. Despite these areas for improvement, the overall integration of academic and practical elements remains strong, providing a solid foundation for both learning and professional
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Despite this, I am looking forward to getting involved in these activities once I transition to a full-time role.
