Overview of Experience

Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
By attending the vacation scheme you will experience the culture, opportunities and challenges faced by lawyers at Gibson Dunn.
No one day is the same, however a day may include: Department presentations, supervisor work, team meetings and social and networking events.
The vacation scheme provides an opportunity to immerse yourself into the role of a trainee solicitor and understand what it would be like to work at Gibson Dunn.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
The vacation scheme provided us with a comprehensive understanding of Gibson Dunn's market position and the role of a trainee.
Through speaking with the firm's managing partner and the co-chairs of the London office, we were able to understand Gibson Dunn's growth strategy and clientele. We were also presented with the importance of trainees to achieving the firm's future ambitions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt and developed numerous skills.
The vacation scheme was very intense, so I developed my time management and communication skills. It is important to manage your capacity and collaborate with everyone that you work with. I developed my enthusiasm for the firm and learnt how to manage working in a new environment.
It is vital that any submitted work contains very few errors and is both detailed and easy to read.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The culture was incredibly warm and collegiate.
The whole office wanted each vacation scheme student to achieve their potential. The employees were open to all our questions, providing us with a dynamic and inclusive working environment.
It was very attractive and refreshing to see such a successful law firm promote such a positive and collaborative environment!

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I thoroughly enjoyed my time on the scheme.
The experience was full on, as the three-weeks were filled with assessments, networking events, presentations and socials! However, this busy programme gave a true insight into the quality of work and the exciting nature of life at Gibson Dunn.
The firm's culture and employees ensured that I did not have a single bad experience during my time on the scheme!
