Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
As the Learning and Development Intern you are in charge of internal training arrangements for the company. This mainly includes arranging crane practicals, lift truck practicals, acid handling, wire handling, cryogenics and magtest access training for technicians. As the company is filled with 60% technicians this is very important in order for them to be able to be fully trained for production purposes and makes communication to cell leaders and trainers important.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
From the very first week my manager told me how much trust she had in me. It was very motivating to be part of such a healthy trusting team and they made sure I wasn't viewed as just an intern. As the year went on and my confidence grew I always had opportunities to gain more responsibilities and complete different tasks whenever possible. By the end I felt extremely proud and could contribute always.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
Leading inductions to new employees heavily important my presentation skills. Planning ahead completing training schedules heavily improved my organisational skills and having to have a constant conversation with trainers letting them know when they are required to complete training improved my communication skills. The company provided essential skills training which further boosted my soft skills when I completed better communication, time management and presentation skills training!

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
I had two managers who supported me through my whole journey at Siemens Healthineers. Through daily team meetings and regular one-to-ones I knew I was always supported whenever I needed it. Our team always asked if we could support each other whenever possible and we helped each other whenever someone's workload might become overwhelming. Even outside of meetings I knew both managers would reply to my queries instantly and I am truly grateful!

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Everyone in the office was always super friendly. The company culture was motivating and meant I never felt totally overwhelmed due to how supporting and cooperative everyone was. Everyone viewed the interns as actual employees which was also very nice. Furthermore there were multiple voluntary teams to get involved in such as the Wellbeing team and the Charity Committee and we arranged so many fun office events throughout the year.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I absolutely loved everything about my internship. I loved how many other interns there were as it gave us the opportunity to form a strong intern community both in and outside of work. My L&D/BE team also made my year and I'll miss each member of the team. It was so motivating to be part of such a good group and we knew we could always depend on one another.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Siemens Healthineers to a friend?
Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Siemens Healthineers
Try to join in as many teams/tasks as possible to maximise your year. Join in on the social aspects both in the office and outside. There are many employee-led groups such as the 7 a side football on Thursdays. Don't be afraid to ask for help or put yourself forward for other tasks as everyone is so supportive!
