Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

Working for Universal Pictures, supporting the Operations and Production teams through digital systems and processes.
Daily tasks include: management of screener systems, raising invoices and PO's, working with our online archive and in-house post-production teams, working with external vendors and licensors.

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

I appreciated the responsibility given to me during my internship; I felt like my role was actually important, even though I was a temporary intern and not a full-time employee. I was very supported with these responsibilities and could always ask questions and ask for help. There were also other opportunities to take responsibility outside of my day to day role and get involved in other projects.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt a lot about how the film industry runs, the stages a film goes through before it is released, and how they are made. I have also learnt a lot about how to conduct myself in a professional environment and how to be confident with colleagues of different levels. I am a lot more self-assured suggesting ideas or talking to people from other teams. I am also more confident learning new online systems.

Support and Guidance

How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?

I received lots of guidance during my internship and always felt like I could ask for help or support. I had weekly catch-up meetings with my manager, as well as support from the rest of my team. It was also encouraged to meet with people from other teams and expand my network, which I was supported in doing by manager who would help me make connections. On top of that, the early careers team organised many wonderful events and opportunities for learning, networking, and guidance.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

The company culture was very relaxed and friendly, everyone felt approachable and encouraging. Even the very senior colleagues were always friendly and willing to connect.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

I thoroughly enjoyed my internship and would 100% recommend to anyone else looking to work in the film/media industry. Compared to other internships/grad schemes/placements, it felt as if I had an important role and had many opportunities to learn and grow. For my first corporate role, I have felt very supported and capable.
