Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.

It ranges from day to day but on a day-to-day basis, tasks include, attending daily project meetings, research and analysis, using PowerPoint to create deliverables and using Excel (dependent on project and task). Usually there is a daily project standup and a various other meetings throughout the day but honestly each day is different!

Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?

At the start of the placement, I was initially just shadowing/ helping colleagues out with small bits as I was new to the role. However, that quickly changed as I progressed through my placement, being given responsibility over deliverables and client interactions.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?

I have learnt a lot of skills throughout this placement including a range of soft skills such as stakeholder management and effective timekeeping, and a range of hard skills including modelling, competitor analysis, market sizing. I have also now gained a much more detailed understanding of how the consulting industry operates and how consultancies win work.

I had many places of contact ranging from the Early Careers team, my Line Manager, my Buddy and the people around me.

Company Culture

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?

Very horizontal structure which meant that it was very easy to talk to senior colleagues. People are always open to make some time for you and help, overall very positive atmosphere.

Overall Experience

To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?

Overall, I really enjoyed my placement. I met a wide range of bright and motivated people and have learnt a wide range of skills that I will use in the future to develop my career.
