Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an Apprentice Software Engineer, I come into office daily. Meet and greet Co-workers in office. I am given tasks by the senior engineers/ line manager, these are given out as Jira tickets which have the required details such as - customer name, completion time, task urgency, resources necessary, all paperwork etc. Some software modifications require paperwork, there are templates for these or a senior can help with. As an apprentice I do not have too much responsibility other than being punctual and my care to other. If I am assigned work, it is up to me to finish this on time or ask for assistance if necessary.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Everyday is a new day for me. Being an apprentice means that there is an indefinite amount of things to learn and grow. An environment, where you are constantly learning, makes life exciting and enjoyable. Due to the nature of my employer, the software tasks we receive from customers are always different.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I think the skill that has grown the most during my apprenticeship is my ability to communicate with everyone. As someone who is new to the job, you cannot be shy to ask for help or guidance. Everybody is different, therefore you learn how to ask for help; you learn who to ask for help; you learn whether you need to ask for help or spend a bit more time trying yourself.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Our programme is well structured at the workplace. I know exactly who to contact or talk to if I ever need help or any questions. Due to the nature of our company a lot of our tasks depend on customer requests, some tasks are ideal for my level, some tasks are either delayed or have to be watered down.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I am always able to speak to my line manager if I have problems regarding inside or outside of work. I can always ask for help from anyone in the office. My employer allows flexible working conditions if I ever need any to support me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I am able to contact ask for support from the University any time I want. Most of the time it is through email, which can take a couple of days depending who I am contacting. Support from lecturers is always available, haven't had an issue not get resolved.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My training provider - the University - teach core modules, in this case about digital technology. Realistically they cannot tailor their course content to match everyone. A lot of the software aspect of our course is irrelevant/independent of what we use at work. However a lot of the theory can be transferred over.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Our company organises many extra-curricular activities, some examples being; Charity events and industry specific workshops.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Promtek to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The working conditions and people inside the work place are all genuine. With the company being a family owned business, everyone is very supportive and cooperative of each other. You can tell the working conditions are good as most of the employees have been here for longer than 10 years.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Promtek?
Be genuine, express who you are. As an apprentice nobody expects you to know how to do the job. You will learn as you go, but it is you personality that matters. Someone who can fit in and get along with everyone.
