Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I create Temporary Traffic management plans. I ensure I create safe working zones for our clients to carry out work on the highway network. I use CAD and I refer to legal documentation and codes of practices such as Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 8 & Safety at Street works Act and Road Works.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the program. I highly would recommend anybody who wants to get into the Traffic management industry to apply for an apprenticeship.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt the usage of CAD. I can comfortably navigate the use of CAD. I feel confident in holding meetings and liaising with clients regularly. I have learnt a lot about Traffic Management and the importance of why we need this. I can provide technical solutions for Traffic management.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Apprenticeships are new to our company so we are always learning about ways to improve and deliver the program everyday. Consilium aim to provide the best quality service and constantly look at the apprentices' needs and reviews. Consilium listen to our feedback and always pushes for delivering the program better for the next set of apprentices. Overall, Cosnilium is fairly well structured and its aim is only to get better.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a stupendous amount of support from my employer. My employer puts me on numerous placements and training courses to have a better understanding of our role. Due to the nature of our industry, it is always adapting and we regularly have toolbox talks and meetings to further our knowledge.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Our training provider could be improved. The course itself is very interesting and holds very important theoretical information related to my role. However, there is always room for improvement. I feel as though they could improve the delivery of the course and have a better structure for this to be accomplished. Our training provider and our employer have a good relationship so we aim to have something in place to improve this
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification has given me the fundamental knowledge in the way the industry as a whole works and operates. I work in a niche industry and the course gives us a brief overview of what the construction industry holds. It is good to have this understanding as I can understand what my clients need and improve the quality of the service I provide to them.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes. At Consilium we have a dedicated welfare team to set games, quizzes and team outings. We have a yearly team get together at the end of the calendar year before the company one week shutdown. In the games and quizzes, prizes are provided. We team up to set carry out charity events I.e A Charity walk for Alzheimer's diesease.

Always do some research before applying to an apprenticeship. It is important to know what your role consists of and what your day to day life will be like. An apprenticeship is a huge commitment and you need to make sure you enjoy what you do. At Consilium, they offer placement days prior to interviews, which will give you a good taster of what we do.
