Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Lean Tree is a digital transformation business, with my role being an Apprentice Junior IT Consultant. Some of my daily tasks include actively participating in client-facing/internal meetings, completing tasks as part of my sub-role as sustainability champion, creation of spreadsheets/PowerPoints and leading presentations back to clients. Since joining the Lean Tree family in Oct 2023, I have been entrusted massive responsibility for key pieces of client work, managing stakeholders, presenting meetings to audiences in excess of 150 participants, attending in-person personal-development events, volunteering to become one of two sustainability champions and Project Managing a crucial internal business operations project. This lists just a small fraction of the responsibilities I have been able. Additionally, I have been part of a number of projects, including 3 large client engagements of which I owned various critical areas, Project Managing the internal project as described above and leading several sustinability projects as the business move to Net-zero. This huge amount of experiences has enabled me to develop at an incredible rate and is attributed to the fact that I was given such huge trust and responsibility from very early on (whilst shadowing and having touch points with my mentor).
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have had such an incredible experience in my programme and I am thoroughly excited to see what the future holds. Just some of the things that have made the programme so enjoyable thus far include: the family-like feel of Lean Tree as a business, the fantastic mentor strcuture that the business have in place to support, the huge and rewarding projects I have undertaken and perhaps most importantly, the personal development that I have felt within myself since the beginning of the course. Lean Tree have played such a pivotal role in creating a pleasurable experience for myself as an apprentice and I have loved every last moment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
There are hundreds upon hundreds of new skills that I have learnt and vast amounts of existing skills I have developed. The first one is attaining the skill of self-starting. The transition from school life where teachers tell you what to do, to work-life where the onus is on you to complete tasks can be very difficult. However, from the beginning Lean Tree have provided me with such a fantastic support network of which have taught me how they break down tasks, tackle problems and manage their workload. Another vital skill that I have developed is time-management. Within my role, time management and context switching are both prominent and crucial to success. Through my daily tasks of client engagements, project-focusing, internal meetings and documentation creation I have learnt to become extremely good at time-management. A skill that I had previously but that has developed massively is communication, more specifically in a professional setting. Prior to joining Lean Tree I was unfamiliar with this type of communication, and talking in front of large groups which I found uncomfortable. However, through the plethora of opportunites that I have been allowed to take, Lean Tree have enabled me to overcome this fear and become a confident communicator in calls and via email. Whilst this only covers a snapshot of the skills I have learnt/developed, these skills have contributed to me becoming the competent professional I am today and I am extremely grateful to Lean Tree for providing the platform for me to succeed.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is extremely well structured. Lean Tree have permiited each apprentice to take a full-day (Friday) to complete university studies. In alternating weeks I have a catch-up with my mentor in which we review my development plan which includes educational goals, personal development goals and client-foccused goals. These meetinsg serve as points for which I am held accountable for my goals which is amazing to see the progress. In the other bi-weekly meeting, I have a meeting with my workplace supervisor, in which I playback my recent work activities, enabling me to reflect on my successes. Additionally, the apprentice cohort will meetup every month or two with our onboarding/line manager to have a catch up and listen to what everyone has been upto. The academic side is also very well-structured. I have 3-monthly tripartite reviews, where I reflect on my work and link the activities to a wide range of KSBs that I have showcased and developed. I also have monthly catchups with the course-leader, in which I explain how the course is going, also serving as a feedback forum. Lastly, each week, I have a meeting with my academic mentor to discuss my assignments ask any questions if needed.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As described above, the support network is exceptional at Lean Tree. During my time in the company, every single member of staff has been committed to supporting and developing me. Whether that be taking the time to talk me through a problem or explaining the logic behind a decision that they made, the employees are extremely supportive. We are also able to set our own perosnal development goals and the business are committed to helping us achieve these goals. The robust structure of the programme as described above, showcases how thorough the support network is.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As I touched on above, the training provider have fantastic support materials that we have access to. The academic side is very well-structured. The university website has a plethora of resources that we can use for research and also has processes in place for things such as safegaurding support which is incredible to know that I am able to lean on if needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The combination of the practical experience gained through the workplace, partnered with the theory application learned through my qualifaction is an extremely potent mixture. Although the practical activities I participate in are crucial to my growth and development, the theory work, only accentuates this. The learnings, from my qualification provides access to the critical thinking and background knowledge behind decision-making that I would otherwise not have the knowledge of. This enables me to perform better within my role as I have bcome a far more diplomatic candidate when it come to tackling issues and problem-solving. Overall, I am able to problem-solve far quicker and transition to delivering considerable value to our clients far more successfully.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Lean Tree are partnered with the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce which regularly hold professional events. I have attended a multidue of events that have provided exceptional lessons for my growth, some fo which include rejection therapy - how to deal with 'No' and a Professional Networking Event. Additinally, the company run quarterly "Townhalls". In these events, all employees meet up at the office and senior leadership presents the latest business goals and iniatives. This creates at atmoshphere is shared goal-setting and achieving. After every event, all employees will participate in a fun social event. Examples of these include: simulated F1 driving and a winter wonderland event which increases team chemistry and allows everyone to catch-up.
