Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I manage the issue and receipt of Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events and other contractual requirements in accordance with the forms of contract, ensuring the timely upkeep and monitoring of project risk registers via CEMAR. I also support with the procurement, communications and payments of all sub-contractors with Turnbull. Along with the overseeing of effective commercial administration of projects, and management of key pricings of works that get carried out onsite.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my programme, I have currently just finished my first year of a 6 year course and already the content being taught in my programme has excelled my skills in order to exceed and be more efficient within my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Within my programme I have developed some existing skills such as, time management; the prioritizing of tasks to ensure deadlines are abided by. This helps a lot within my role as it can be crucial if deadlines aren't met.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme at UWE is extremely well organised and structured, prior to starting the course I was invited to an on site induction where they discussed the basic fundamentals of the course and what to expect. We went through the details of what the course would consist of and the modules we would work through each year. The induction was extremely beneficial, and allowed me to get my bearings of locations where the up and coming study schedule would take place.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have received great support from my employer, we have regular 1:1's discussing how my course is going and that I am continuing on track with the assessments etc. I am very grateful that I have this support from my colleagues at Turnbull, any issues or challenges I face I know I can always can't on them to guide me in the right direction.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support that I receive from my training provider is really positive. I have liaised with multiple members of the training providers team since enrolling, and they regularly check up on how I'm doing. I can honestly say each member of the team have been positive and happy to help.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The criteria of the degree is based heavily on the nature of my role of being a Quantity Surveyor. The programme benefits my current skills and behaviours as an office based role. It is great as I am developing my knowledge as well as doing the job at the same time.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Turnbull withhold many working groups as a company, such as, Culture, Inclusion and Diversity groups, Groups to support working parents etc. They also hold yearly events in the summer and within the Christmas period bringing the whole workforce together which is great.
