Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
As Junior Procurement Analyst at Group 1 Retail Ltd, I manage supplier onboarding, procurement systems, reporting, and internal communications. I support cross-functional teams, liaise with suppliers, track cost-saving initiatives, and ensure policy compliance. I am the sole analyst in the team, manage the inbox and am a POC for Procurement and manage all approvals for selective categories.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I’ve really enjoyed my apprenticeship programme—it’s been an incredibly rewarding experience. It’s given me the chance to grow both professionally and personally, build valuable skills, and take on real responsibilities. I’ve felt supported throughout and genuinely valued as part of the team, which has made the journey even more enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I’ve developed a wide range of existing skills and also gained several new ones. I’ve strengthened my data analysis, stakeholder management, and communication skills, while also learning how to manage procurement systems, supplier onboarding, and policy compliance. I’ve also developed confidence in delivering training and leading internal communications.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
At the start, the programme lacked a bit of structure and clarity, and I wasn’t entirely sure how everything worked. However, once I voiced my concerns, the response was immediate and positive. I was given clear guidance and ongoing support, and since then the programme has been well-organised and easy to follow.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I receive an exceptional level of support from my employer. From day one, I’ve felt fully backed by my team and colleagues across the business. Whether it's training, guidance, or day-to-day questions, there’s always someone willing to help. I’ve never felt alone or unsure of where to turn for support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I received strong support from my training provider throughout my apprenticeship. I had regular check-ins with my mentor, who provided helpful feedback and guidance. They also offered group break-out sessions, useful online resources and study materials that assisted with both exams and day-to-day tasks. Whenever I had questions, my trainer responded quickly and clearly. Overall, the support was tailored to my needs, ensuring I stayed on track and felt confident in my learning.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My apprenticeship qualification has significantly helped me perform better in my role as a Procurement Analyst as it has provided me with a strong understanding of business processes, organisational skills, and communication techniques, all of which are essential in my day-to-day work. The training improved my ability to manage tasks efficiently, track and analyse data, and communicate effectively with colleagues and suppliers.
The apprenticeship also helped me develop key skills in problem-solving and decision-making, which I use regularly when analysing procurement data or negotiating with suppliers. Additionally, the knowledge I gained in project management and time management has enabled me to handle multiple tasks and deadlines more effectively.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
No, there aren't many regular extra-curricular activities, but we do have a free volunteer day each year, which is something I am responsible for organising for my team. We try to take part in this activity annually, and it's a great opportunity for us to give back to the community and spend time together outside of work. While it’s not a traditional social or sports activity, it’s something that fosters team bonding and allows us to contribute to meaningful causes.

The culture at Group 1 is positive, inclusive, and focused on achieving results together, which makes it a great place to build a career.
