Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a HR Apprentice, I am doing rotations on four different teams to get an overview of the many functions of HR. My day-to-day tasks involve maintaining employee records, contributing to policy development, and participating in employee engagement initiatives. I also attend team meetings, handle administrative duties, and collaborate with colleagues across departments to gain practical experience and deepen my understanding of HR operations.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my apprenticeship programme as it provides me with a broad view of the HR field and allows me to apply what I’ve learned in a practical setting. The supportive environment and the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals have made the experience both rewarding and engaging.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have both learned new skills and developed existing ones. I’ve gained hands-on experience with HR systems and software, enhanced my understanding of employment law and compliance, and developed strong communication and interpersonal skills through regular interaction with employees and managers.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I find my apprenticeship programme to be very well-organised and structured. The rotations across different teams provide a clear framework, allowing me to experience various HR functions in a logical progression. There’s a solid balance between hands-on tasks and learning opportunities, and the guidance from mentors and colleagues ensures I’m constantly supported.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a significant amount of support from my employer. From the beginning of my apprenticeship, I’ve had access to a dedicated mentor who provides guidance and regular feedback. Additionally, my colleagues across all teams are always approachable, offering assistance and insights whenever needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive excellent support from my training provider as I work towards my qualifications. They offer regular check-ins to monitor my progress and provide helpful feedback. I also have access to resources like workshops, online materials, and one-on-one sessions with my trainer. This support ensures I’m on track with my studies and helps me bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that my qualification is very beneficial in helping me perform better in my role. The knowledge I gain through my training provider gives me a strong theoretical foundation, which I can apply directly to the tasks I handle on a daily basis. It deepens my understanding of key HR principles, such as employment law, recruitment strategies, and employee relations, and enables me to approach challenges more confidently and with a more strategic mindset.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

My workplace offers various extra-curricular activities, including sports clubs, art clubs, and a book club. These provide great opportunities to stay active, explore creativity, and connect with colleagues. They’re a fun way to network, unwind, and engage in interests outside of work.
