Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Providing specialist physiotherapy session 1:1 with service users discharged from hospital after an acute stroke episode. I've been trained and completed several physiotherapy competencies under the supervision of my senior physiotherapists colleagues. I mainly focus on new patients assessments and addressing balance and strength issues post stroke. I am trained to prescribe physiotherapy exercises based on the clinical findings on the assessment.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I love being enrolled in the physiotherapy apprenticeship programme. I found the lecturers and support staff at UWE Bristol very good and supportive, always keen to go the extra mile to teach us.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
It's a mixture of new skills combined with previous developed skills from other jobs in the past. I had lots of objectives set by the senior physiotherapists colleagues that I've learnt, from how to perform a neurological physio assessment to keep and active caseload of service users.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is structured very well, with a combination of face to face visits on campus and online learning. The draft timetable is published 6 months in advance which helps a lot.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Lots of help from my clinical supervisor (senior PT from our team) and the clinical lead for physiotherapy on the site (St Martin's Hospital Bath).
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Lots, no objections to made. Always knowing that there is someone from UWE that can be contacted for support means a lot.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Massively, because we have the chance to put in practice all the skills and tests learnt on Uni days. I strongly believe that my senior colleagues from the team have noticed a big change in the skills and treatments I'm performing since I've started the course.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Not at the moment
