Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role includes but not limited to managing the administration team within prison healthcare, ensuring hospital appointments for patients are booking within prison constraints, ensuring the establishment is in stock of medical equipment, stationery and staff uniforms, ensuring we are keeping on track with national screening databases, managing the rota for the whole healthcare team within the establishment and liaising with the Head of Healthcare and other department heads, including arranging internal and external meetings and events.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I have really enjoyed being able to complete Apprenticeships with HCRG Care Group. I have had wonderful support from mu tutors, whilst also having support from my own line manager. I have enjoyed feeling my confidence levels increase and benefitted by achieving career goals.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have both developed in my current skills of organisation, communication and building on my confidence, whilst also developing my skills as a manager, by understanding the importance of leadership, emotional intelligence and being able to hold difficult conversations when necessary.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is very well structured. I have modules to complete which consist of a workbook and then an assignment. Having them in modules, helps me to focus on specific areas and development at a time which has been really beneficial on gaining extra stills to complete my role to the best of my ability.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer. Not only is my manager supportive of completing this apprenticeship but they have also become a mentor. I have also been able to develop my career within this organisation and feel that there is no limits on how I can develop.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The support I receive from my assessor and tutor has been brilliant. They are always open to listening to me and supporting my ideas for assessments and project ideas. We have regular catch ups which I always gain something from and I know they are always there if I need extra support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Overall it really helps me to gain confidence in myself to perform better in my role. I know have a better understanding of my skills and have been able to develop and improve on these to become a better manager and leader for my team.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are a few social events that I have been to, including organising some myself! I have also been lucky enough to be taken to some external professional events where I have been able to gain an insight into future prospects.

Why?
HCRG have enabled me to develop in my career. As someone who left school with good GCSE's but with a completely different career in mind, I did a complete 180 on my career and changed into administration. HCRG have supported me with training courses and apprenticeships that I have been able to develop within the same establishment - I have found my calling!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to HCRG Care Group?
My advice would be to show how willing you are to learn and thrive in this environment and that you are committed to constantly learning and developing skills to become the best version of yourself. HCRG are also supportive with home life balance and ensure your wellbeing is at the forefront.
