Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
So as a paralegal apprentice at the FCA, i am working with a case team and take on a more administrative role, reviewing case documents, correcting formatting, and helping where my team need me. i have 1 day a week for study so go through the apprenticeship content on those days, and am also involved in a few clubs at work - social committee, climbing club etc.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy it very much - the apprentice content is similar to A level law so its a nice refresher and going over what i learnt, and work is also good as i am learning new things every day and get to meet a large variety of people from different backgrounds.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
yes, we use a software called EDT which is used to review documents and evidence, and learning how to use that has been intensive as it has many functions, same goes for a software called INTACT. I have also developed my attention to detail as i have a lot of documents to review, which need to be similar format throughout.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I would say well organised. the apprentiship provider had a few technical problems atc the beginning when logging onto the monthly lessons but those were quickly resolved, and work everything runs smoothly, and i k ow what to do, and if not i know who i should contact ie, my line manager.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I recieve a lot of support from my employer - my line manager always is ontop f the work i need done, and any exposure or evidence i need and helps with that very quickly, and my team leader is also very helpful when i need to talk personally and about non-work related things.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive good support from my training provider, my coach at Damar is very helpful when im struggling on a submission, and we have a forum we can post and read questions submitted with a quick turn around, and a way to connect with other apprentices to offer help if needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
moderately - the training provider layout is more catered to classic law firms. i work at a regulator so we have to tweak the content to fit our needs at times. but i have learnt some things that have given more insight into my role, such as data skills which are apart of the modules we learn.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
yes! - i am apart of the indoor bouldering club (rock climbing), and attended badminton club for a while - work has sooo many options of clubs available at a discounted price. i am also part of the social committee which is a lot of fun and helps develop a lot of interpersonal skills.

Yes
Why?
it is a great environment to work in with so many opportunities to grow, develop, meet new people, experience new things. everyone is so friendly and inviting which surprised me at first but it is really genuine, and people take care of apprentices very well and tech them skills at the pace they need.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)?
don't be nervous, everyone is really nice and it is going to be a great place to foster your skills - it is the type of job you could stay in your whole life with no need to change as there are many chances to grow and work at a higher level.
