Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role involves the abstraction of water from raw water bodies such as a river, reservoir, bore hole etc. and treating it so that it becomes potable water for public use. I ensure that the water is treated correctly, and follow rigid procedures that make sure the water is safe for use.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy it a lot, It challenges me everyday with lots of problems needing to be solved, and I am always learning something new.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have become a better team player while working here, as It's vital that you work well as a team or things on site could go wrong! I have also learned lots of new skills such as operation of valving, the water treatment process, IT skills from using SCADA etc.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The structure is very well organised, as I have plenty of time to make sure my work is completed. If I feel like I'm falling behind, there are a lot of resources that I can use to make sure I'm excelling.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive plenty of help from Northumbrian Water, as any issues that I come across, be it IT related, money related or time related are all taken seriously and handled responsibly.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

My training provider has always responded to me when I have any queries about my qualifications, and I have fairly regular reviews to make sure that I am following the work programme to a good enough standard. If I were to fall behind, I would be supported.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification provides me with the knowledge I'll need to perform the role correctly. It covers the legislation and legislative bodies behind water treatment and how they affect my job. I also learn the actual maths and science behind water treatment, which will help me to improve my problems solving skills when problems do arise on site.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Northumbrian Water holds Roadshows where they discuss how they are doing as a company and what the goals of the company are. They also have Volunteering opportunities where people can volunteer to help out in their local community.

They provide a great work environment with a good salary and benefits to match. They have lots of career opportunities that you can move onto later if you want to try a new role, and management are happy to hear and respond to any complaints that employees have.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Northumbrian Water Group?
Have a good work ethic, show up on time and always try your best. Check if the role will interest you, as that is the most important aspect of a job since you will be spending plenty of time in your role.
