Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
SEO - managing grant funding and allocating this to civil society organisations conducting performance reviews and monitoring spend. Conducting site visits and engagement events promoting the grant funding and the vulnerable individuals this supports. Managing escalations of urgent cases and allocating across the business as required.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
Each module was different so for some modules the interactions with the tutor was fantastic and really made the module engaging - others was completely the opposite and really disengaged me in the process

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I learnt some new skills but primarily developed existing skills that I had learned over time.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
The programme was hit and miss subject to the tutor - some used the online facilities and messages which made it easy to find. Some were really good at communicating whilst others were poor so this really made a difference to the experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
This changed subject to business needs - at times I was pulled out of my classes as there were urgent meetings I had to attend but on the whole they were really good and allowed me the time to attend class and also do my pre/post work. My manager was always keen to attend meetings with my coach and support me with this and provide me with on the job learning opportunities
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
This was hit and miss - ACE team were fantastic and really helpful whilst some of the support team were helpful others could take ages to respond which is frustrating when you are searching for the link to attend a class. I changed coach approximately 5 times over the course of my learning and some of these were extremely supportive whilst others were not as good.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It has helped to give me confidence in my decisions and to help me figure out how to make the best decisions.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
There are limited opportunities in my location but in other locations such as London there are many more. On my own team we try to encourage social activities however this does not provide the oppotunity for wider networking.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Home Office to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The security and flexibility that is afforded to staff is a key factor in the current economic climate however this can be subject to the team/work area as this can and does change subject to the area of work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Home Office?
For anyone who has worked in the private sector it can be frustrating all of the red tape and processes that have to be followed however the advantages of the flexibility and security outweigh this. The pay is reasonable although it is taxpayers money so you will always get more in the private sector but subject to the team you can get an enormous sense of accomplishment and satisfaction from helping people.
