Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Shadowing different areas across the information security team. In compliance currently and I carry out infosec audits on third parties and internal systems to ensure their security processes are in line with BBC policy. I review evidence including different policies and encryption levels and how that is implemented and can sometimes include physical security of the data centres involved which can involve site visits.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I absolutely love it. Such a great place to work for and feel fully supported in my role in every aspect. Balancing uni and work is not a problem as BBC ensure I have time away from work to work on appropriate assignments and exams. Opportunities elsewhere also have come up that sometimes don't relate to my department so I get to experience different areas of the BBC.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Speaking up in group environments as I feel supported and that my views will be heard. Being able to approach different people within the BBC to ask questions. Confidence to speak out and take the lead in calls with other stakeholders and high level people throughout the business.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

Yes good. I study one day a week at uni and this is a seamless process between switching between uni and work and BBC allow me time to work on my uni work if I need too.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I feel my support is extremely high. I am hard of hearing and have never felt so supported in a workplace environment before. They always check in and make sure everything is going smoothly. I really appreciate this part of it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

This is difficult due to issues I have had with hearing. If it wasn't for this, it would be a bit better but I still feel like there needs to be more support in this aspect.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Yes and no. Sometimes it does not always relate to what I am doing in my role but the knowledge is helpful long term.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes we have an apprentice community that reaches out every so often for networking events and casual meet ups. This is really beneficial

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Really supportive company. Opportunity to work anywhere in the BBC and so many different people to chat too. Good work-life balance as always someone to support you. Good support for people with disabilities. Easy to develop and progress your career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be yourself always. It's all about your personality and how you can deal with situations than your academic knowledge sometimes so be aware. Be confident and DO NOT be afraid to speak up.
