Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Appointed person in a hotel as a front of house receptionist. In charge of ensuring team and guests are safe and everything is running smoothly. Dealing with any form of incident or accident and reporting everything correctly. Kissing with hotel manager to make decisions for the hotel. Making sure all legislations are met and adhered to.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I have enjoyed learning all the new off the job training. It’s given me the opportunity to go and learn new stuff constantly and increase my knowledge on the business and hospitality as a whole. It’s been a good learning experience and has opened up my knowledge on where I can go next.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
During this apprenticeship I have learnt more about compliance, how to maintain health and safety, how to comply with relevant legislation and organise shifts. I have gone into a temporary role of where I had to deputise for my line manager. I ran end of week tasks to help with KCSA’s.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Doing this apprenticeship has made me seen that It is very organised and well structured. I’ve not had to worry about anything other than my learning goals and appointments as everything else has been done for me to progress forward. Help has always been there and it has been a good experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
2/5
During this apprenticeship, I haven’t had much support from my employer. My experience with my previous line manager wasn’t what I expected as I didn’t get the support from them as they were constricted with their own tasks and had limited time to help and support when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
During this apprenticeship, I have received endless support from [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] throughout the whole programme. She has been there to answer any question and help with any concerns that I have had. Shes always been available between calls and meetings so I haven’t had to wait weeks until a scheduled meeting to get help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
During this apprenticeship I have definitely learnt more about the legislations used in the work place and has made me more aware of my job.
A lot of it was covering what I have already been doing in my job role so was just reaffirming what I know and already do.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
In my place of work there are no social activities to really be apart of other than raising money for whitbread chosen charity Great Ormond street hospital.
There is a reward and recognition celebration that whitbread hold where they go through all the positives of the business and the plans for the future

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Whitbread plc to a friend?
No
Why?
There’s too much instability and change. Whitbread can never make their mind up on what they want to do with their businesses. They change job roles and motives too much for something to progress and when you get to a point of moving forward, they take away the job opportunity.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Whitbread plc?
First piece of advice would be to make sure you like people and you want to be around. Be prepared to work hard and not always be recognised for it but know that it is appreciated. If you want to move up through hospitality it is a great place to start. You need to have thick skin.
