Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As a student paramedic apprentice with the North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust, I assist in delivering emergency care, working with qualified clinicians, attending callouts, developing clinical skills, and taking part in academic and practical training to work toward becoming a qualified paramedic.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as a paramedic apprentice, particularly due to the trainers and the environment that my employer provides.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed skills in advanced life support, ECG interpretation, airway management, trauma care, medicine administration, patient assessment, safeguarding, mental health response, autonomous decision-making, and effective communication, while using clinical technology and leading in high-pressure, pre-hospital environments.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The elements of the programme led by my employer (NEAS) have been very good, particularly the taught aspects delivered by my employer. Some of the shift allocations have been tricky at times but there has been some leeway given to this where appropriate. The university however have been dreadful and I would be reticent to study via Teesside again.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer have been hugely supportive of me during my learning journey. I suffered some significant personal issues when in my first year and had it not been for my employer and the trainers, I would not have been able to complete the course. The support generally from my employer has been great.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My employer has been instrumental in giving me support, advice and guidance with working toward my qualification, particularly when helping me write academic reflections and reviewing my work for me.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It has allowed me to carry out my own learning and assess the value of research when applying it to my role.
There was a module delivered from the university which had absolutely nothing to do with my chosen role and will not benefit me at all. This module was supposed to be on leadership, but instead was more focused on service improvement and designing a poster, at level 5. This was also marked based on the idea we suggested which was extremely subjective.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Regular CPD events are available and there is a reasonable social element to my work.
