Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a catering engineer we service, fix and diagnose faults on catering appliances. Normally we spend all of our time out in the field completing pre planned services or travel to different customers to complete call outs on their equipment and fit parts which we have called up. As I am on an apprenticeship, I spend my time between out in the field with a coach or by myself, and then we go to the training academy for training every few weeks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It is a really good course and I am developing constantly. I like that there is a mix between learning in the classroom but a lot of the learning is done out on site and is more hands on.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, I have been learning the fundamentals or electrics and how to use test equipment. I have also developed my people skills as I am out at different sites each day talking to customers whether that be chefs or the facilities team members at a site.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The course structure has been good and organised. As we have moved the academy a couple of times this has impacted us slightly as we are waiting for the final bits to be sorted before we can get in and start learning on equipment again. But overall it has been good.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

At MCFT you are never left by yourself and support is always there. This could be from either your coach or other engineers as well as the office staff on the service desk and the team that head up the academy. Everyone is more than willing to assist.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Constant support is there and the trainers are very helpful and understanding. If you are struggling with a certain topic for instance they will put time in to help and ensure you are happy and understanding what we are being taught.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Before I started the apprenticeship I had no previous experience with this line of work. The qualification I will gain will further my knowledge and improve me as a catering engineer.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes there are always other activities happening which are a good release from work. The company holds trips away and fun sporting activities for all of us to get involved in.

Why?
The company as a whole is amazing and the opportunities are great. The training you are put through is good and is a great way to begin the journey as a catering engineer. All of the staff are friendly and always very helpful.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MCFT?
You get out of it what you put in. So if you are looking to start a career at MCFT, be open minded and willing to learn.
