Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
A day on the vacation scheme was composed of a range of activities and tasks. Daily department tasks included research, due diligence and drafting as well as listening in on client calls and writing attendance notes. We were also assigned a responsible business task and groups to plan a presentation with, we had a call to plan this daily. There were also daily talks on different departments and what work they do.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was really insightful, the talks were very detailed and provided lots of information as to what day to day life was life for lawyers in each department. Some talks shocked me as departments I would have not initially been as interested in caught my attention as I learnt more about them and now I would be interested in a seat in them.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed my research and drafting skills as well as my presentation skills. I have learnt about various elements of regulatory law, such as safe guarding, health and safety and environmental regulations. I have networked with various other vacation schemers and legal professionals, which has given me an insight into life at Gateley,

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The company culture really shone through. There were social events throughout the week which were a great chance to get to know people in the business. The companies ethical stance really shone through as our attention was turned to a responsible business project that was centred around ESG, diversity and inclusion.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
I enjoyed the experience immensely. Everyone was so approachable and helpful. I have learnt so much about my department and what day to day work here is like. I would 100% recommend the Gateley vacation scheme to any aspiring commercial solicitor.

Be yourself at every stage of the process. If your making an input into a talk or discussion, ensure it is meaningful and you're not just saying it for the sake of saying something, make sure you listen to everyone and show why you want to work at Gateley!
