Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role involves attending sites and either completing remedials or PPM (Pre Planned Maintenance) or Callouts and on some occasions site surveys for customers.
A typical day involves completing my van checks first thing. I would then drive to my first job and meet with my mentor/coach. We would then completed the job. My coach/mentor would then show me how to complete the job sheets correctly. We would then speak to the customer and make them aware of what we may have found or any preventive measures we would recommend. We would then leave site after getting the customer to fill out the end of the job sheet and sign it off. We would then go onto another job if we had one. After completing around 4 jobs in a day I would then drive home and complete my day. Every day is different which is common on a day-to-day basis. This helps to keep my brain busy and working all the time which I enjoy.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I thoroughly enjoy the programme I am on as it has opened new doors for me and has helped me to meet a variety of different people. This has also helped me to broaden my knowledge therefore helping me to enjoy the programme at the same time. Every day is different which also helps keep my mind busy.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have developed many skills involving learning to correctly diagnose a faulty fridge. I have also learnt to fix broken equipment with the correct tools and I have also learnt great people skills. This has helped me to talk to the customers and sometimes even clients in a professional manner. This has therefore boosted my relationship with customers and staff whilst continuing to improve upon my people skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is well structured whilst being at the academy and also in the field. Whilst on a job I like to make notes about what work I am completing incase I need to remind myself in the future of that job and how to do it correctly.
One thing I would say is I would like to do more practical work in the technical academy where we learn how to complete things to do with our course and fill out our coursework. This is so that when we eventually get put into a solo scenario on site we will be somewhat prepared and know how to do things comfortably and not mess up.
The teachers that run the academy are always on time and are always willing to help you out if you ask. That is a great thing about the programme as they will always know an answer to something and if they don't they will get someone who does know the answer to the problem that you have.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I feel I receive lots of support from different people in the business. They can be the teachers at the academy of my TL (Team Leader) and my Coach in the field. Some are even managers in the office as they also support you behind the scenes. They would be the main support for me at the business.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
When we are working at the technical academy there are always teachers about to lend a helping hand.
Sometimes there can be lots of groups at the centre therefore making it a bit harder to concentrate on your own coursework.
But the teachers do a fantastic job at making the technical academy a place of learning but also working at the same time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel it has helped me as it has made me feel more like an adult in an adult job rather than a teen back at college learning a new subject. I love the fact that I can learn at the centre and then go out into the field and learn on site with a coach/mentor. I enjoy that very much.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are events and social events but they are usually quite far away therefore would take up quite a bit of time just to get to therefore I don't usually go because of this. (2hr travel)
But I love the fact that everyone gets an invite if I lived closer I would go to these events that they run. (Golf days, Comedy Nights, Virtual Games).

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend MCFT to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I have enjoyed me time at MCFT and will continue to enjoy it. I have recommend the apprenticeship to a friend who is thinking about applying.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to MCFT?
I would say to always ask questions. No question is a wrong question. If you are unsure about something speak up because usually the person next to you is thinking the same thing.
Work hard.
