Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
Throughout the week I was given a variation of work mainly from my trainee supervisor/mentor, but also from other trainees, solicitors and partners in the department. A majority of the work involved things like drafting and research. Also had an interview later in the week as well as a group project with schemers from other offices.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was great to have a brief overview of the various departments available to trainees at the firm and the potential roles, but the best part was getting to see and feel the special culture that Gateley has. An incredibly friendly and supportive atmosphere to be in and is unlike any other firm I have experienced.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have learnt how to draft various legal documents, as well as learning a lot about the department as a whole. In relation to personal skills, this week has developed my communication and confidence when it comes to speaking about professional legal areas that are new to me.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
AMAZING! Everyone here at Gateley is so welcoming and friendly, which makes it a great atmosphere to work in as it feels like everyone is always working towards supporting each other and working together. I have felt very comfortable during the entirety of my placement and have neve been apprehensive about speaking up and asking questions to those around me.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
The placement exceeded my expectations in all aspects. The only thing I think could be improved is perhaps reducing the number of teams talks as it meant we had less time working in department. I would also prefer if it was two weeks because I feel like a week only touches the surface as to what it would be like as a trainee here.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Gateley
Be yourself and make sure you have researched the firm. Gateley is a a very unique plc professional services company, and it is very different from most traditional law firms. Personally, the way Gateley operates is for me and I prefer it over the typical city law firm, however this might not be what some people are looking for.
