Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Typically I spend my day shadowing my line manager, assisting with property inspections and measurements and preparing a wide variety of differing reports. I learn to assess building conditions, key points for determining value and market trends. I will also attend meetings both internal and external, developing good client communication.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I massively enjoy this apprenticeship. Obviously some activities and teams are on the dull/boring side, but that comes with any job. Other teams have been great fun to be apart of and no matter the team you will learn important employability skills. The social aspect is also really strong.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed a wide range of skills within the workplace including property assessment, data collection, data management, report writing, market analysis, relevant professional regulations and government legislation. I have improved my client communication, tech use/formatting, attention to detail, time management and problem solving skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The organisation of the programme is very hit and miss for me. Team rotations, early career socials and other professional aspects seem to be greatly organised in London, however, this is not always the case working elsewhere in the regions. I do feel slightly forgotten about at times in that regard.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Support from my employer is good. We have an early careers lead within my office and a whole early careers team based in London, they will answer any queries and support you through your apprenticeship. there is also a large cohort of graduates across the business as well as recently qualified surveyors, these individuals can greatly help with your University or assessment studies.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
JLL are great when it comes to supporting you through the APC (Assessment of Personal Competence). You receive access to support and training that some external individuals have to pay for. You will be assigned an APC councillor who works alongside your University Support Officer to guide you through the process and assist with training. Mock exams/interviews with qualified surveyors in your office is common place, ensuring you are fully prepared for the end point assessment.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
The BSc Hons in Real Estate Management is required for you to become a fully qualified surveyor. As such, the contents of the course have practical benefits. You learn key information about building construction, the importance of sustainability to the future of real estate, how to value buildings using in depth maths that will be utilised by the valuers in your office, everything is relevant to your corporate life.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
The social aspect at JLL is very good, not just within my office but nationwide. Office events are common place, from drink events, Christmas parties, charity fundraisers and more. Across the offices sporting events (usually in London or Manchester) are very frequent with anyone welcome to take part and represent JLL, the biggest of these is probably the Rugby and Netball 7s event based in London which is a sector-wide competition.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend JLL to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The office environment is extremely welcoming, the company offers great support and is a reputable employer, the social aspect is good, support for your University course and APC are both impressive. You are set up to learn as much as possible and pass your assessment. This is a great sector to work in with good job security, pay and exposure.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLL?
I would advise you to cast a wide net when applying, these apprenticeships are very competitive so its best to have multiple options. Reach out to apprentices (on LinkedIn etc) to gage their opinion. Try to get an understanding of the property sector, JLL as a business and issues such as sustainability and diversity, this can really set you apart in your interview. The main thing I would stress is that JLL (from my experience) do not care about what you have done or what qualifications you have, they care about who you are as a person and if they can picture themselves working with you. Are you aware of modern issues? mature? competent? would they trust you in front of clients? These are key to succeeding in the interview process.
