Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

At the salon I will make sure the salon is clean and ready for the day. During the day I wash and blow dry hair and make sure the salon is kept clean throughout the day. At the end of the day we deep clean, hoover and mop
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy doing people’s hair and making them feel more confident in themselves and I love learning new skills. I also like my team

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I’ve learnt how to wash, massage and blow dry with the proper techniques. In academy I’ve learnt how to do different haircuts and colour. I’ve also learnt a lot of theory. I’ve developed my communication skills by talking to clients everyday and accommodating to them.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

At the salon I have a regale structure. At the academy sometimes they don’t know what to teach us so we are waiting around in the morning a lot. Also different teachers give us different techniques that other teachers would tell us not to do.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My manager in the salon gives me lots of support and always helps me if I need it. He’s very understanding and is always willing to teach me new things
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

In the salon my manager will go through things that I need to know which is great. At the academy they tend to tell us what to do and then disappear for a while and we have no one to help us and we’re waiting for a long time.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I’ve learnt different techniques to blow dry which helps in the salon, I’m not quicker too. Also when it comes to washing off colour they taught us how to get rid of colour stains by rubbing in circular motions around the hairline which is what I do everyday in the salon now
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

MainStage and breakthrough team is a networking event. We also have our Christmas parties in December

Would you recommend Toni & Guy to a friend?
Yes
Why?
We get to learn a great skill and can move up and do hair and open salons across the world. However it’s very expensive to get to academy every week and but things like folders etc when your travel isn’t paid for if you live in London.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Toni & Guy?
You learn everything you need to here so trust the process but be prepared to do a lot of overtime and not get paid for any of it or get any time back
