Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am an apprentice at bury st Edmund’s Toni&Guy. My job role involves assisting the stylists. This can be clearing up stations, making drinks for clients, washing hair, toning hair and more. I have been working for Toni and guy for almost a year so I am more trusted with more in depth jobs such as mixing up and blow drying. I am also taught a lot through out the day by the stylists as they take time to explain what and why they’re doing what they do.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my programme a lot. I love the environment in Bury st edmunds as we work well as a team. The stylists and technicians are always great at answering any questions and helping if I get stuck in any way.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills such as people skills. My confidence has grown immensely to talk to clients and I’ve also learnt teamwork as I work well within the bury st Edmund’s salon. I’ve also learnt physical skills such as blow drying whilst in the salon and educational skills like colour and cutting theory in salon.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well organised and structured. Every Friday I go up to the London Toni&Guy academy and do my training. Here I am able to learn skills in a greater depth and pass off my assessments. The teachers are all wonderful and the pace is perfect. As we have the opportunity to pass off assessments so often, it makes the programme move swiftly and makes going forwards easier.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a lot of support from my employer [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the Higherin Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] she has meetings individually with us frequently to ensure we feel that we are where we want to be and to see if we need any further help. If I ever have anything I want to improve she always gives me an opportunity to, whether it’s practicing on a client or on a block in salon whilst she supports me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I recieve a lot of support from my training provider (the academy) as all my teachers ensure that I am doing the best I can and help me progress by challenging me in the areas I need. They encourage me to try my assessments as much as possible which speeds up the process to getting my qualification.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel like my training helps me a lot as it gives me further knowledge that I can then use in salon, by applying this knowledge i become the best apprentice I can be as I’m learning in and out of training.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes. We have a Christmas party where the whole bury st Edmund’s salon gets together outside of work to have a celebration and there is also an event called MainStage which involves all the Toni&Guy salons collaborating to celebrate the company as a whole. As a salon we also will go out occasionally as a team in a social aspect which tightens our bond within the salon.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Toni & Guy to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Toni&Guy to a friend as the training programme is so well structured and accommodating to any needs. The salons environments are also very encouraging and a great place to be.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Toni & Guy?
My advice would be to show how keen and willing you are to learn. As a hairdresser you never stop learning throughout your entire career so showing how you can adapt to new techniques will be a strong suit.
