Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
On a day-to-day basis my role involved working on tickets from my team's sprint board, which can be a range of different things from fixing bugs, working on new features, or investigating customer issues. Also much of the day can be spent liaising with other members of the team to get work planned, tested and pushed through to production.
Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
I was given more responsibility than I could have imagined, and was able to work on many business critical tasks. The team gave me full autonomy and made me feel as though I was a 'normal' part of the team.

Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
During my time at Egress my skills as a developer have improved more than I could have imagined. At a point where I was comfortable with my programming skills I was introduced to many new concepts, different approaches to problems, as well as learning how to produce a production program with large scalability in mind.

Support and Guidance
How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
Support was always on offer when it was needed and I always felt like I had someone to go to when I needed help. However not much official support is provided in the way of training/progressing technical knowledge, the approach to this always felt a bit 'learn as you work'.

Company Culture
What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
Generally the company atmosphere is very positive where everyone is welcoming and friendly. I was always invited out for lunch/ after work, and official socials were arranged regularly with a range of different activities on offer.

Overall Experience
To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Egress, I learned more than I could have ever expected from a placement year, and loved being given the responsibility and autonomy of a regular team member. At times the work itself could be slow and I didn't have much going on, but the atmosphere and culture made up for this.

Yes
What advice would you give to others applying to Egress
Be open and honest during the interview process, you will be meeting members of the team that you could be working with on a daily basis so they just want to get to know the real you! The company is really accommodating so if there's a particular area you'd like to work in (i.e. backend development) let them know your preferences.
