Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently an Operations Manager, responsible for a team of 25 people for a high profile Alt-Net customer. My role is more strategic, thus whilst accountable for the day to day business KPIs, I also look for opportunities to deliver value for people, performance and customer.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
The programme is enjoyable - it started off a little slow as I felt like I wasn't learning anything new but as things progressed the programme became far more enjoyable as I learned and developed my skillset.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I've learnt many new skills, the DMAIC approach and lean sigma approach to problem solving as well as developing existing skills such as stakeholder management and engagement.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme was really well organised. The structure was clear and I knew exactly where I was supposed to be at each stage. All meetings were pre-planned and deadlines for assignments declared well in advance so nothing caught me as a surprise.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is fantastic. They were fully supportive of me embarking on this journey and have continued to support me all the way throughout it. I get the time I need, when I need it, in order to push through and make sure I'm never off track and the support of other coaches in the business as/when I need it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
My training provider has been fantastic. The sessions that we have are always really clear so there hasn't been much of a need to reach out to them outside of our sessions but on the odd occasions that I have, my tutor has been really responsive and supportive.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Really well. When I started my journey I was an Operational Excellence Manager and I was since promoted to Operations Manager but in both roles, the apprenticeship supported me in performing better. It gave me an enhanced framework to deliver value for my employer and customer which is ultimately the end goal.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, we frequently have social activities including sports such as football games or runs and leisurely activities such as meals around festive periods of the year. We have many professional networking events internally and we participate in some external events too.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Unipart to a friend?
Yes
Why?
When I first started in the business, I joined through the agency as a tote cleaner. My first role was scraping off stickers from empty totes. Since then, I have progressed through the business through various roles in the last 3.5 years and been given every opportuntiy to grow and develop. I have gone through agency colleague, permanent colleague, administrator, project manager, operational excellence manager and now operations manager in a very short space of time. This is a perfect place to be to grow, learn and become the best version of yourself.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Unipart?
Be honest and do whatever you can to get through the door. Once you're in, the opportunities are endless!
