Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role is an Apprentice Civil Engineer. My typical day to day activities could be setting out on a site, calculating and providing key quantities to my team, liaising with clients and sub contractors and ultimately learning as much as I can from those around me.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my workplace, it's a great place to work with lots of perks. Most importantly, though, I really enjoy the team I work in and the people around me. With that said, university can be tough to balance with a full time job, however there is plenty of support from my workplace to help you.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, absolutely. I have been taught valuable skills and information through the experience of those around me, that otherwise I would not have gained from traditional education, such as university. Combining a degree education and real industry experience is the key to gaining solid experience and knowledge.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I have been given a progression ladder that I can expect to see throughout my career, however I can also see a natural progression where I have gradually taken on more responsibility and have seen growth in my knowledge.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
My employer is extremely supportive of my studies and workplace learning. I am confident that they can help me with any issue. In the past when I have had struggles, my employer has provided amazing support to help me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I would say that the support is there, however you have to really look for it. There have been times where I have reached out for help and I have had a really good experience, however there have been times where I feel that I did not receive the support that I needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I would say that my degree is around 60% relevant to my workplace role, however it is important to note that Civil Engineering is such a diverse discipline and covers so much, it would have to be a very tailored and specific Civil Engineering degree to be completely relevant to my role. With that said, everything I am learning in my course is certainly relevant to Civil Engineering and it could potentially be useful in the future if I were to branch off into different paths of Civil Engineering.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Absolutely, my company regularly host an apprentice forum where you mix with the other apprentices. On top of this there are countless social days, such as BBQs, sport events and award nights. This is something about my company that really impresses me.
