Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
As an apprentice at Seymour House you are able to work with the children on a day to day basis, as well as get time out every day to complete your apprenticeship work. Within the rooms you facilitate meal times, activities, carry out physical care routines and build strong bonds with the children, and team members around you.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
As a very practical learner I really enjoyed being able to complete my learning and then immediately apply it into my day to day role. It is very rewarding to see how you develop your skills and knowledge over time as you develop your confidence. Although there is quite a lot of written work, there is definitely a good balance!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Absolutely! The course is broken down into 8 themes including topics such as, safeguarding, child development, partnership working and health and safety. For each theme there is a learning course to complete which teaches you new skills, meaning you are then able to practically develop within the homebase rooms.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is very structured, with the course being broken down into 8 themes, as well as containing practical observations. During a meeting with your assessor at the beginning of your apprenticeship, they give you an overview of the course to break down all the things you will be completing. You also complete your work using an online system meaning everything is easily stored and your tasks are well organised.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Seymour House nurseries always try ensure that apprentices are receiving their time out every day and the managers are always available to answer any questions or support with apprenticeship work, such as the observations. Other team members are also always willing to help and apprentices are recognised for the work they do, even if they are not qualified team members.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The assessors at Seymour House are amazing and are always willing to offer support, offering drop in sessions every week for any questions or queries you may have. Through regular reviews with your assessor, you can see how well you’re progressing and discuss any concerns or issues that you need help with too. You can easily see their passion for supporting us as apprentices through their excitement to see you qualify!
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Everything that I have learnt has been applicable in my job role, even if in small ways. The course equips you with all the essential knowledge needed to become a competent team member, and my self-confidence in my abilities has developed massively over the course of my apprenticeship.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Seymour House offer plenty of extra opportunities, including an awards evening, Christmas parties, a summer festival and team events such as a bowling night. As there are multiple nurseries, there are also ‘inspiring environments’ evenings during which team members can visit other nurseries to see their displays and get new ideas to take back to their work. There are training days within the apprenticeship course as well as online sessions to take part in too, during which you can also meet other apprentices.
