Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role as a People Advisor is crucial in supporting management with HR-related processes, ensuring a positive and productive workforce.
I serve as a primary point of contact for HR inquiries, facilitating the smooth and effective management of all HR support requests across Asda. My responsibilities include delivering accurate, timely, and efficient solutions for a wide range of HR-related issues, ensuring a positive experience for colleagues. This involves delivering exceptional service by addressing colleague inquiries, resolving issues promptly, and ensuring a supportive experience for all colleagues and management.
I play a key role in providing an outstanding experience for Asda colleagues, actively promoting a culture of high motivation and continuous growth.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I’ve really enjoyed working through my CIPD alongside my role as a People Advisor. It’s been great to take what I’m learning and apply it in real situations. The two really complement each other and have helped build my confidence, especially when it comes to handling people processes and understanding the bigger picture. It’s definitely confirmed that I’m on the right path.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since becoming a People Advisor, I’ve developed stronger communication skills, from writing clear emails, presenting information to managers, or handling sensitive conversations. I’ve learned how to tailor my approach depending on the colleague/manager and the situation. I’ve become more confident in thinking on my feet, offering solutions, and working collaboratively to resolve problems quickly and fairly

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure of the CIPD programme, alongside the apprenticeship, has been really well thought out. The mix of coursework, on-the-job learning, and regular check-ins has helped me stay on track without feeling overwhelmed. Each module builds on the last, and having time set aside for study and reflection through the apprenticeship has made it easier to apply what I’m learning directly to my role.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I’m really grateful for how supportive my manager has been throughout my learning journey. My employer has given me dedicated hours to focus on my studies, which has made a huge difference in balancing work and my self-development. Having that time to concentrate on my learning has allowed me to grow both professionally and personally.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I have been fortunate enough to have Michelle as my coach. She offers regular check-ins, useful resources, and clear guidance whenever I need it. Their encouragement has really helped me stay focused and confident as I progress through the course.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
Since I started my course in January, I’ve already noticed how much it’s helping me perform better in my role. The training is giving me a deeper understanding of key people practices, and I can see how I can apply what I’m learning to the work I do every day. Even though I’m still early in my journey, I already feel more confident in handling different challenges and making informed decisions. I’m excited to keep building on this knowledge as I progress through the qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
At work, there are lots of extra-curricular activities to get involved in, which I really appreciate. One standout opportunity is the Three Peaks Challenge, where employees come together to take on the UK’s highest mountains. I also had the chance to travel to Britannia House to meet the team in person, which was a fantastic way to network and connect with colleagues from different locations. Since our roles are remote and we’re spread out across the country, it was especially meaningful to put faces to names and build stronger relationships.
