Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My home team if front line engineering support. Every day is different, we work on a round robin phone system and accept support requests from everyone else in the building. Typically we troubleshoot issues in studios, everything from headphones, microphones and mixers to large media servers. I often spend most of my time in the workshop using specialist tools to repair the electronics of these things
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy it very much, the other people in my course and the other people on my team are very welcoming people. It has it's rough days like any other job but overall I do believe it's exactly the type of job where it's enjoyable as long as you're open to learning

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
During my time on the scheme Ive developed a plethora of skills, electronic engineering, network engineering, communication, I'm more capable of working in a team now, I'm able to speak in public, I'm also given time to develop skills during shift that will aide me in my job like programming

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very well structured overall all the steps and progressions are laid out at the very first day and gone over just to ensure we're aware of where we're going and what were doing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
All the support I could possibly ask for is there. My manager and the schemes manager have frequent check-ins to ensure me and my cohort are doing okay. I also suffer from a mental health illness, the BBCs support on that front is amazing I am able to get the help I need
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The university isn't the best in terms of lecture quality and support it often times feels as though they are reading from the slideshow without understanding the material themselves so when requesting support it's difficult to interperate
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Alot of what I have learnt about the job has been on the job or through self study and research, some times something I have done in my course has been relevant but only provides background information. In addition to the fact the BBC has their own training facilities that we are to attend to learn job specific information, where the quality of teaching is much higher and the level of understanding attained from them is much greater
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes there are many networking activities and social events often either building wide or community wide. There's the apprentice community that often host events and it's typical for departments to have their own socials.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BBC to a friend?
Yes
Why?
As a person that didn't think that university was for them, the ability to be funded to go as well as learn things on the job in an applicable manner is everything. Once I finish this year I'll have 3 years of hands on experience, a job as well as a degree with no debt. I believe anyone that wants that should go for it
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BBC?
Be yourself and be prepared to learn a lot
