Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is currently on a placement with the Regulatory Assurance team. Due to requirements by OFGEM (Regulators for the Electrical Distribution Sector), our business will need to provide reports with quantative and qualatative data to meet these requirements. Our teams responsibility is to ensure that data provided is accuarate, reliable and complete to the best of our abilities and meets the requirements set out in the license conditions (deadlines, content and etc.). Therefore, we are required to complete an assurance review of submissions / reports which fall under the scope of the Data Assurance Guidance document provided by OFGEM each year. To complete this, we also liase with authors of submissions / reports and also update the necessary databases in-line with our procedure document.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme due to the constant learning through the lectures and meetings with my mentors and coaches, as well as the real-world application that the course provides within the proffesional workplace. The content is enagaging and of a high standard and the platform itself is easy to use and easy to keep track of progress.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Yes, skills such as navigating SharePoint, improving use of Microsoft Office Apps (Teams, Word, Excel) as well as being able to utilise internal data architecture to develop code on Python software for course projects. I have also learned soft skills such as being able to communicate more effectively, analyse data more effectively through a more detail-oreintated approach as well as being able to manage time more effectively.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well organised and structured so that generally anyone without prior experience to data anlysis will be able to understand. The two platforms utilised 'EduKATE' and 'Aptem' also provide useful features which allow me to easily keep track of progress and also give instant feedback on some of the coursework, leveraging AI. I have regular meetings with a success coach and Data Mentor whom guide me through the process as well as address an queries I have. Overall, the programme is well structured.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I have regular reviews with my apprenticeship manager as well as constant engagement with my team who guide me through my proffessional development as well as address any queries or obstacles I am facing. I recieve sufficient support from my employer and am generally feeling well supported throughout this process.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

As mentioned prior, I have regular meetings with my success coach and data mentor throughout the course of this apprenticeship. Any queries regarding the apprenticeship and projects / coursework required to complete this apprenticeship, I am able to address in these meetings and come to a resolution. There are also extra resources such as 'Friday sessions' with tutors and a 'Q and A' section within the 'EduKATE' platform which can be utilised to address any queries prior to meetings if needed.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The course allows me to be able to understand the fundamentals of data analysis which directly translates to the data review process and has helped me to better and more effectively review and analyse data. This course has also allowed me to to improve my logical-thinking and problem solving skills through their interactive coursework and projects required for this apprenticeship.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes, but the extra-curricular activites are limited. There are few social activities at work, however, there oppurtunities to get involved in proffessional networking events. I have been invited to a few networking events but have not gone due to location and time.

Would you recommend SSE to a friend?

Why?
SSE has allowed me to develop my proffessional skills and soft-skills which have benefitted me greatly. The team I work with are friendly and I have the confidence to bring up any work-related issues I have with them. Overall, my experience with SSE is positive during this apprenticeship and would recommend to my friends who want to develop proffessionally.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
When joining, ask as much questions as possible, and utilise all the resources available to you.
