Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Over-seeing the running of a 12 bed residential home for autism and learning disabilities. I have a staff team of 46 people and am responsible for planning their rota's, paying their wages and also looking after my residents needs.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I struggled doing my level 3. I was so worried about starting my assessments that I ended up leaving them all to the end. With my level 5, I feel I am approaching it much more professionally and am really enjoying what I have done so far.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Since becoming a Deputy Manager I have learnt to be more professional when dealing with staff members, residents families and other professionals. I have also learnt a number of computer applications that we use within Choice.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Really good. It's set out really organised and easy to see what work I need to be doing and when they are due.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
So much. I have a really supportive Manager and she helps me whenever I need it and ensures I get time during my working day to complete my OTJH.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
Level 5 has been so supportive so far and I am very pleased that I have started it.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
So .much. I try to write from experience and it allows me lots of time to reflect on the good and not so good parts of my job.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
No.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Choice Care Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Choice has been a fantastic Company to work for. We are paid well and we are given a lot of opportunities to progress our careers. I would love to become a Home Manager at some point in the future, but I'm in no rush at the moment, but I do know I want to do that within Choice.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Choice Care Group?
Be positive. Bring your caring and empathetic side to the interview. Be honest if you haven't worked in care before - we offer so many amazing training courses and lots of e-learning and our induction process is really in-depth. Be excited to work for Choice. You are given so many opportunities that you will never be offered in another job.
