Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am a senior process modeller. We have various types of tools to represent water treatment works where I maintain, create and also investigate queries.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I love the fact that the programme gave me a reasonable foundation to start building data analytics knowledge. I am free to explore any field as I please. But sometimes struggle to find a time for practice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I am doing Data Analyst Apprenticeship to upskill my data analytics skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Firebrand offers a solid structure. They have a list of things that require a certain compliance. Although there is no flexibility and alignment of business needs from them such as not offering Python training.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is quite supportive enabling this opportunity for me as upskilling strategy within my role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
they are quite supportive but I think there are some foundational problems within the program such as a list of Python courses to watch even though, it is not in their teaching plan. Preparation to residential courses are poor as we are obliged to listen so many courses that are related to the topic but have very little time to actually practicing them. Modelling types are covered in residential training quite poorly. It was so many of them to be covered within a short period of time. We were obliged to click already written R codes and moved on to next. This is very poor educating strategy for such complex concept. Labs are not available before the training to work with our own pace.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I start to understand what we are capable of with the available data. It enhances my ability to explore new ways of modelling as it widens my horizon.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
There is nothing going on within my network. I am doing this as upskilling so it is not in my focus.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Thames Water to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a company that will enable you to explore what you can do independently. Water sector is an industry where new ways of looking at data is important and very little is done with it.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thames Water?
Despite the management difficulties of the company, it is a nice place to be. Try to be visible, involve yourselves in various activities and projects. You'll be appreciated.
