Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my role as a Business Administration Apprentice at BAE Systems, I support the Central Project Office by updating project data, managing systems like LN, maintaining calendars, and ensuring accurate reporting. I also assist with planning activities, streamline processes, and help improve team efficiency across the Europe & International (E&I) sector.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme as it gives me the opportunity to gain valuable experience while developing both professionally and personally. I like the variety in my role, the chance to work with different teams, and the ability to take on real responsibility while continuing to learn and grow in the workplace.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I’ve developed a range of new skills during my apprenticeship. I’ve improved my Excel and data management skills, learned to use systems like LN and Workforce Manager, and developed stronger communication and organisational abilities. I’ve also built confidence in problem-solving and managing tasks independently within a fast-paced project environment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme is well-structured, with clear goals, regular progress reviews, and planned placement rotations every six months. This gives me the chance to experience different areas of the business while building a broad skillset. There’s a good balance between on-the-job learning and support for completing apprenticeship-related work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a strong level of support from my employer. My managers and colleagues are always willing to help, whether it’s answering questions, providing guidance, or offering feedback. There are also regular check-ins, development reviews, and access to training resources, which all contribute to my progress and confidence in the role.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive good support from my training provider when working towards my qualifications. My skills coach is approachable and checks in regularly to review progress, provide feedback, and help with any questions I have. They also offer useful resources and guidance, which makes it easier to stay on track with my coursework.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that my qualification really supports my performance in the role. It helps me understand the wider business context and develop key skills like communication, organisation, and time management. The tasks and assignments often link to real work scenarios, which makes it easier to apply what I’ve learned in a practical way.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yeah, there are a few extra things you can get involved in at work. Sometimes there are socials for apprentices and charity stuff going on. There’s some sports teams too, like football. There’s also the odd networking event or talk, which can be useful now and then.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Yes, I would recommend BAE Systems to a friend. The apprenticeship programme offers a lot of hands-on experience and opportunities for personal and professional growth. The work environment is supportive, and there’s a good balance between learning and gaining real-world experience. Plus, the extra-curricular activities are a nice bonus
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
My advice would be to really research the company and the role you’re applying for, so you can show your interest and understanding in your application. Be prepared to demonstrate your problem-solving skills and ability to work in a team, as these are key in the roles here. Also, stay open to learning, as there’s always new information and skills to pick up. Finally, don’t hesitate to get involved in extra-curricular activities—they’re a great way to network and have some fun while learning.
