Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Involving tasks from all three areas of the body shop - paint panel and MET - my day to day tasks can involve: stripping or building up vehicle body panels or mechanical and electrical systems; repair and replacement of inner and outer body panels; and preparation and paintwork of body panels.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Definitely the right job for me, so glad I came into the workplace with Gemini as it has allowed me to thrive and the people I work with are great at that too. The apprenticeship programme is much better for me going to college 1 week every 2 months compared to a local college and going once a week.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I came into this apprenticeship with next to no experience, only having done previous mechanical work to my own car. Nearly every skill I use in the working day I have learnt since the start of my apprenticeship. The site I work with are great for helping me out with new skills, and the college staff are great with this as well 80 percent of the time . The equipment at the college is good but a large proportion is outdated and not looked after by other apprentices.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The programme itself is great, the college week works well and I get a good insight into the next set of skills I will be learning, then having the next week's at work only give me a great chance to practice my skills and not be interrupted by missing a day midweek.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Employer support is great at Gemini when it comes to a good supply of technical information and work to hone my skills with. They provide a good wage allowing me not to need too work a second job and the management are on top of ongoing issues and do fix them. The apprenticeship management from Gemini are active and informative which is nice to know when I need them I can get contact, however I haven't seen much of them in person after my induction leaving not as much personal connection as to how I am getting on in my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Emtec college part of Nottingham college is very helpful for any issues I have while learning and while off the job but they are working with limited vehicles to work on when we are up at college which is a shame.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Getting an introduction to the skills we will be focusing on at college is great as it allows a safe space and room for error eliminating the pressure of first trying something new. It works well and all the staff are very helpful and supportive.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
Not really, every now and again the company will provide a challenge to create some artwork such as when we partnered with Mac tools, designed a tool box and the winners had they're designs made up and raffled to Gemini employees, however that was only involving apprentices. There are no team building exercises or events for employees to participate in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Gemini Accident Repair Centres to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The learning program and the wage are definitely favourable and come in on top to anything local to me in the south west.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Gemini Accident Repair Centres?
Don't be scared if it's a career change or just trying something new in your field, Gemini is a great place to work and has never seen me any issues. The apprenticeship programme is planned very well and you'll make new friends in your colleagues at every site.
