Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

To provide support to the finance team, this could be; general accounts payable and receivable support, inputting journals in preparation for end of period, hosting meetings for unit heads as well as 1 on 1 interactions to provide advice or to question issues with the end of week reports.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

It's fantastic, I have an excellent trainer and my line manager/mentor at work is extremely knowledgeable and a good teacher. The support from the wider team at the office is also brilliant.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've gained a good understanding of accounting principles from my mentors at work as well as from my trainer at MBKB and a better understanding of what is required of financial reports and presenting them to unit heads.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The head of learning at this unit of Compass set up a stringent onboarding program that ensured I got to know lots of people quickly and enabled me to settle into the role well. My mentor and line manager had a well thought out plan to introduce new work pieces gradually but also ensured I had room to grow or slow down if it became to much. MBKB and the trainer are well structured and always ready to provide support.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

A lot, through weekly catch ups with my line manager/mentor that enable me to air issues or concerns from the previous week, whether that may be the learning side, work aspects or personal concerns. This is doubled up from the wider apprenticeship team at Compass whom I have a monthly call with to ensure I'm being supported by my manager/mentor.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Recently I've undertaken my first exam and my trainer was excellent at providing support via 1 to 1s to revise areas that I may be struggling with, as well as providing plenty of practice materials to consolidate learning and ensure myself and the other learners feel confident going into these tests.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Very much so, I feel that I'm progressing quickly through my role and the knowledge gained through the seminar style learning has provided a great foundation of finance and accounting skills that allow me to communicate and work better with the finance team and my mentors.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The social committee has a calendar of events through the year that they eager to involve as many people across the team in, as well as summer and winter parties which was great fun.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Compass group?
Get stuck in, in an apprenticeship the more you put in the more you get out, and the team at Compass are happy to teach and grateful for the help you can provide. Ask questions and engage, sometimes it can be daunting to join a large company like this but upon arriving and meeting the team you realise very quickly that you're part of the team too.
