Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I come to work with a positive attitude and help my colleagues with their IT questions every day. I set up new users and their devices, like laptops, desktops, and phones, at all our locations. I look after the service desk by passing on tickets to the team and working on my own as well. I also get to travel to our other sites to set up equipment and meet the great people who work there.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme as it allows me to combine my passion for technology with the interpersonal skills I developed in customer service. I appreciate the balance of learning, both through virtual classes and hands-on experience, while working alongside experienced colleagues. The opportunity to develop my IT skills across different areas, support others, and travel to different sites makes the job both rewarding and engaging.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

With a background in customer service and a strong interest in technology, I have developed both interpersonal and technical skills, working with a range of hardware and software. I take initiative in my learning by studying independently and attending virtual classes as part of my apprenticeship. Additionally, I benefit from on-the-job training and guidance from experienced colleagues who have extensive knowledge in the field.

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is generally well organised, with a good mix of practical experience and virtual learning. Support from colleagues has been helpful in building my skills. However, the online portal feels outdated and can be difficult to navigate, which sometimes makes it harder to access resources or track progress effectively. A more modern, user-friendly system would improve the overall experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a good level of support from my employer. My colleagues are always willing to help and share their knowledge, especially when I’m learning new tasks. I feel comfortable asking questions, and there’s a positive environment that encourages learning and development. This support has made it easier for me to grow in both confidence and skills during my apprenticeship.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

So far, I’ve received a fair amount of support from my training provider as I work towards my qualifications. The virtual sessions are helpful, and I can reach out if I have any questions or need guidance. However, the online platform used for accessing resources and tracking progress feels outdated and can be difficult to navigate, which sometimes makes it harder to fully utilise the available support. Despite this, the overall support from the training provider has been positive and encouraging.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I believe the qualification I’m working towards will be very beneficial for the next stages of my career. Throughout the programme, I’ve covered a wide range of topics that are directly relevant to my role and future responsibilities. The knowledge and skills I’ve gained so far have already helped me perform better in my current position, and I’m confident they will continue to support my growth as I progress in my career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

No, there aren’t any regular extra-curricular activities at my work, such as sports teams or networking events. However, we do have occasional social gatherings, like Christmas dinners, which provide a chance to connect with colleagues outside of the usual work environment. Despite this, there aren’t many other opportunities for extra-curricular involvement.
