Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I manage apprentices within the Home Office, providing advice to staff and line managers. I work with apprenticeship providers, managing our contracts and solving issues staff may have during their learning experience.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme. Not all the modules are 100% relevant to my day to day role, but it does push me to find our more about HR and what else happens in HR around me.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have further developed my stakeholder management skills and increased my data presentation skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I think the programme is well structured. The modules seem to follow a logical pattern, and it's clear to understand deadlines for piece of work I need to submit.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As I work in the apprenticeship team I receive a lot of support! I always have enough OTJ hours each week and I can be flexible with when I do my work. My line manager is around if I have questions.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We have a group teaching session at the start of each new module, which imparts a lot of new knowledge. I also have my regular teaching session with my coach. These aren't as informative but still good to have.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I don't think the qualification will directly impact my current role all that much, but I do feel that it will set me up with skills and knowledge which will be useful if I want to move to another part of HR in the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
2/5
No

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Home Office to a friend?
No
Why?
I think you have to want to work in Civil Service, and a lot of work is operational. It can be hard to find a job outside of the operational area.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Home Office?
Follow the application information online as much as possible and don't be put off by the process driven environment it is.
