Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I complete a set of analysis tasks via set of weekly metrics that are completed during the week. They are repeatable process driven tasks that at start may been long and complicated but there are user guides to help you. I also complete extracurricular activities too to broaden my knowledge and experience. I also attend university on weekly basis for the formal teaching part of the course. There is occasionally week long residential week for university too where block teaching happens.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
The work is interesting and meaningful, you do work that contributes directly to the important work that BAE does. Sometimes the work is repetitive but this is good for certain people like myself. The university generally is a good course and covers a full range of activities and modules in the IT area. Everyone has a different experience at BAE as there are different pathways to take. Plus this applies to the university too.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed my communication, confidence and interpersonal skills during my apprenticeship which has helped me across all areas of life. From a work perspective, I have learnt data analysis skills, process skills, excel skills and formulas. From university, technical knowledge relating to my course plus soft skills like concise writing, presentations and programming

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is a well organised programme, with regular rotations in placements which give your flavour of all the different things you can do in the business when your exit the course. The university is reasonably organised but there are occasions when they could be more organised as marks are often returned late or assignments are not always clear. The work load is well managed
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
You get support from your line manager from a work placement perspective. You get support from the early careers team from an apprenticeship side of things. If you need additional support than there is the EAP and safeguarding team who can offer support too. There is a full range benefits on offer too which can support you through other aspects of your life to enhance them
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
You get access to a study skills hub from the university to help you with your studies. However you also get access to a full range of support from the student support team which is very comprehensive and very good. You can get access to mentoring and counselling should you need it. It's similar to the EAP however it just for students and it is easier to access. You can also sign up to receive students discounts on various things to during your study.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
I think that most of the training doesn't relate to your day job but it does relate to your competencies you need to tick off but most of them are not data analyst ones. Also most of the modules at university are hard to map to your day job. Only the final three modules at level 6 relate to your day job
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There are endless of opportinities to get involved in extra stuff. The company has a big programme called stretch which give you a full range of extra things to do that add to your experience that you otherwise may not have been able to do. There is also STEM activities which allow you to give back to community and teach future young adults about careers in STEM. The summary the sky is the limit.

There is good career at BAE Systems and as the early careers population is large there is a good sense of community in that population of employee's
